About The Role

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week, 9.30am – 6pm (Monday - Friday) 
Project based fixed term contract 
Salary: depending on experience 
Start Date: February 2022
Location: Gas Ferry Road Studio (some remote working initially)

Come make games at Aardman! We’ve assembled a world-class team to build visually unique games for PC and console. Our focus is inventive mechanics and compelling characters imbued with the humour, love and craftsmanship you’d expect from Aardman.

About You

The Role: 
This will include evolving our data-driven design programming approach and contributing to the framework, and building and owning the gameplay data. You’ll need a strong understanding of core-systems design, an ability to create and curate mechanics that are being used across the design team, and a focus on iteration, testing and feel.

You’ll work closely with the programming and design teams, and have the opportunity to contribute to the scope and goals of the project. You’ll have agency and comprehensive support throughout the project, and be supported in presenting contributions at industry events.

We also want you to help us define our unique culture within Aardman. That means how the studio operates and feels, how we build games, and how we work together and communicate.

Core Responsibilities:
Help us deliver high quality games built with UE5, on PC and next-gen consoles
Develop our core player mechanics and abilities, and contribute to the implementation of a test framework for these abilities
Work alongside designers to understand and react to gameplay needs
Design and own the core mechanics database
Contribute to development across many other aspects of the game
Help define and create the best practices, tools, and environment for the studio do to its best work
Support the build and iteration of our various development and production workflows and pipelines
Contribute to skill and process development throughout the studio

Required Skills and Experience:

Passion for game development and design
Professional experience building games with C++ and Blueprint
A strong understanding of core design and the way that mechanics create gameplay
A good understanding of data driven design
Candid, supportive, growth mindset
Good knowledge of software engineering: 
Pragmatic programming skills
Algorithm and data-structure knowledge
Skills in debugging and optimisation
Skill in breaking down problems and finding solutions
Good understanding of version control systems

Desirable Skills:
Strong experience with UE4
First-hand experience shipping titles on PS4, XBox One, or Switch
Degree in Computer Science, engineering-focused Game Development, or similar
Experience with testing and automation
